MATH 730 : Algebraic Surfaces
Spring 2011 , METUDescription: This class is a continuation of the Complex Geometry class
MATH 747. We deal with the algebraic geometric
study of the complex surfaces. Complex surfaces provide a wealth of examples in 4-manifold
geometry and topology. In particular, useful in Symplectic Topology, study of Lefschetz fibrations, Stein manifolds,
Einstein metrics, Yamabe Problem etc.
Our aim is to develope the necessary tools to be able to understand the introductory classic:
1. Complex Algebraic Surfaces
by Arnaud Beauville.
And also the ultimate reference on the subject:
2. Compact Complex Surfaces by Barth, Peters, Van de Ven and Hulek.
Text: 1. Principles of Algebraic Geometry by Griffiths and Harris
Some other helpful references:
2. Complex Geometry by D. Huybrechts.
3.
Differential Analysis on Complex Manifolds by R.O.Wells.
4.
Lectures on Kähler geometry by A.Moroianu.
